I’m needing some ideas for a relapse prevention plan.
Need coping skills for getting through a tough craving. I’ve been trying to get off meth since the summer if 2018. The longest sober time I’ve had is 5 months. I want to do things differently this time bc what I’ve been doing obviously isn’t working. All ideas welcome!!!!!

    • I’ve been there & I know it’s Very hard( Mine was Cocaine then pills) I did go to A methadone Clinic& Surprised I did it It got me Away from the Cocaine, The Pills came Few years later after I had 11 deaths in my Family In 1 year Not Kidding…But there are a few if not many…Get on Youtube& Watch Movies About Getting Clean& Starting to relaspse( Cravings What to do…You Got this I can say you CAN Also ask Your Dr or Go to the nearest Hospital and tell them your Scared your gonna Relaspe And you don’t know what your gonna do..Tell them your mentality at that time isn’t safe for you to be in Publics. People, places, things Remember that Your never Alone Get busy go walking or riding bile, go watch movies on Netflix download Tear on your phone it’s free movies Anything read a book…You can do this. I’ve been clean 8 yrs

      • Thank you very much! I have over come an opioid addiction 2 times in my life, I know I’m capable of being a recovering, sober addict but oh man I’ve never experienced this level of addiction until I did meth for the very first time almost instantly hooked like never before. I never thought about going to the hospital as a “safe zone” if I felt like relapsing. I downloaded a few different addiction/recovery apps this time and I even downloaded a counseling app that I pay for just for an addiction counselor. I have ramped up my personal support team and for the first time ever came clean with my mom about my usage and wanting to really quit this time. I’m not doing everything different this time bc there are things from my past recoveries that are good to keep using but I had to pretty much change my whole plan of attack and get darn serious about this!!!

    • You definitely Have The Right Tools( I will be certified for Substance Abuse Counselor I hope by Dec with This Covid going on I’m not Positive I’m now Able to be A peer Support Specialist, And when I’m sat the 2 Area Hospitals We have numerous Amount of People come in Due to There Minds being mentally Drained Causing your Body to be Physically Drained, This is Why Addiction Becomes A Mental Issue, Its Causes us to be Mentally Dependent on the Substance that We Are Most used to Feeling That Euphoria with…The People Places, Things techniques Truelly is A lifesaver…As long As you Don’t Associate yourself with those you Used to , or Go to the Places you Used to Or know You can get it, And You Don’t Focus on The Things that you did during your Drug Use Those 3 Things Are tough sometimes…Also i Was maybe Wondering If You are Still using If the Hospital may just be the Way to go..If your not Already on something for mental Issues meaning Something that can help Racing thoughts, Mood stabilizers..Anything that can re program your mind From the Cravings Also I downloaded coloring Apps to keep me busy& word Apps Just ANYTHING you Can do To Take a (C)hance to Make a (C)hoice To (C)hange 3 Cs

      • I do have some mental illnesses that I’m in treatment for and I do take meds for them. I’ve been stable and been on my meds and in treatment since the end of November 2013. I did relapse last night before I even thought about posting on here. I had been sober for 9 days. I’m not really sure what my local hospital would do if I went to the ER bc of relapsing or afraid to relapse. I live in a pretty small town in a fairly rural area. I know they don’t have any kind of detox facility or capability. The hospital associated with my mental treatment facility does NOT accept detoxing individuals no matter your mental health illnesses or lack there of. I’ve considered rehab and have not ruled it out.

    • Hi @Edna Higgins. I only have my experience to share but I’m more than happy to share that. I have found that by actively using a sponsor & working a 12 step program & seeking a connection with my higher power I can stay sober one day at a time. Through strengthening my spiritual connection, I can get through each day without picking up & eventually reach a place where that desire it completely removed. I don’t know if you have joined a 12-step program but it saved my life.

      • I have never joined a 12-step program but am actively seeking an online one bc I don’t drive so I don’t have a way to go to meetings in person. I am working on strengthening my spiritual connection as well right now. That’s something I never did before. Thank you so very much for your input!!!

    • Yes, my son unexpectedly needed me so I had to go. When he goes back to his Dad’s I will definitely be back!

    • Don’t use. Go to AA. Get a sponsor. Do step work. Grow your relationship with your Higher Power. Help others. Best relapse prevention skills ever invented! We’d be happy to have you in our fellowship.

      • Thank you!! Those are things I haven’t tried yet.
What do you mean by fellowship? Is it online? I’d love more information!
